Yiannis | World Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships

Centre member Yiannis will be racing at the World Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships in Montreal in his age group on the 25th & 26th June.

The sprint race consists of 750m lake swim, 20k cycle and a 5k run. The relay team is made up of 2 ladies and 2 men, each doing a 300m swim, 5k cycle and a 1 mile run.

The venue is situated along the Saint Lawrence River, at the Grand Quai in the Old Port (Vieux Port) of Montreal. Located in the centre of the city, the Vieux Port is a historic area southeast of downtown featuring many attractions such as the Place Jacques-Cartier, the Montreal City Hall and the Bonsecours Market.

Yiannis said ” This is a dream come true for me, as when I started my journey in 2012 at the age of 29 years old, I couldn’t swim when i first started and I didn’t know where my journey would lead”. Yiannis was inspired by the London 2012 Olympic Games to do something and never expected to represent Team GB.

Although Yiannis had competed at the World Aquathlon Championships, he made the switch in 2019 to see if he could complete in Triathlons. After putting off his bike training for so many years, he didn’t expect to find himself in 2022 on the start line at his first World Triathlon Championships.

Yiannis quoted “Being picked for the relay team was a big privilege and my ultimate goal was to race here, whatever happens I will enjoy every moment of it”.

We wish you all the best at the championships and congratulations on achieving your goals.
