Yiannis | European Sprint Triathlon Championships

Centre member Yiannis competed at the European Sprint Triathlon Championships on Saturday 25th September in Valencia, Spain. This was his debut for the GB Triathlon team and he was very pleased to come 9th in his age group but also the 3rd Brit home. This has meant that Yiannis has secured a spot for the 2022 European Championships, he has also manged to secure his first ever World Triathlon Championships spot for next year.

With regards to the race, Yiannis said “I didn’t have the best of swims and I think this is due to not being able to warm up beforehand. I was a good minute off from what I have been swimming. I came on to the bike and really pushed hard, this is my weakest area”. He continued to say “I then came on the run which is my strongest area and I felt very strong on it. My run was the fastest split in my race, I am over the moon about the result and I now know what I need to work on. I will come back even stronger next year and target the podium, I was only 2 and half minutes off the podium”.

His training regime for this race consisted of around 16 hours a week from the start of the year. He quoted “this is tough but very achievable around work and family commitments”. A typical week of training consists of 2 strength sessions, 4 running sessions, 4 bike sessions and 3 swim sessions.

Congratulations to Yiannis for this great achievement and we look forward to seeing him train in our swimming pool.
