Support Staff Charity 2023

The 2023 King’s School Canterbury Support Staff charity is The London Asbestos Support Awareness Group (LASAG) who provides practical and emotional support to anyone affected by mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases across London and The South East.

The charity understands the impact such diseases have on individuals and their families, both physically and psychologically. They deliver support at home, over the phone and at monthly support groups.

The London Asbestos Support Awareness Group (LASAG) was nominated by Natalie Collins (Centre Manager of The King’s School Recreation Centre). Sadly, her father Colin passed away in late October 2022 after being diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2021. Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that develops in the lining of the lungs and in Colin’s case, was caused by exposure to asbestos. Colin was a carpenter and joiner by trade which is where unfortunately he came into contact with the asbestos.

Colin went to school at St Stephen’s and Archbishop’s and lived in Canterbury all his life before moving to Seasalter a few years ago. Sport was everything to him, he enjoyed his golf, bowls and was a big Manchester City fan. He was also a founder member of the Mitre Sports Club in Canterbury and was a member of the Lions Club for many years, raising money for charities. Colin and his family received invaluable support from LASAG and they are hoping to raise awareness and support for others in similar situations.
