King’s Support Staff complete Reps for Robbie to raise money for R World
We’ve raised £4,306 with the Reps for Robbie challenge in support of our support staff charity of the year, R World.
To support R World, King’s staff have been completing Reps for Robbie this week (February 22nd -26th March), tackling as many repetitions as possible of activities ranging from running to wood chopping. There’s been a phenomenal engagement from staff, and all donations are very much appreciated, no matter how small, via donation form.
R World was created to honour the life of Robbie Curtis by improving mental health support in schools and universities after Robbie tragically passed away following an episode of depression during the first lockdown.
His passing was a shock to everyone as after a couple of short bouts of depression at university, he was completely back on form during his gap year, when he immersed himself in spirituality in Sri Lanka and spent hours meditating and reading the books of his favourite historian Yuval Harari.
A graduate of the University of Nottingham, Robbie had worked at King’s in catering and at the Malthouse Theatre during the summer holidays to save for his gap year, and was often seen exercising in the gym at the Recreation Centre.
In the last six months, Friends and family of Robbie have come together to create R World, the name he gave to his website following his travels to Sri Lanka and India last year. Its aim is to create a culture of positive mental health in Schools and Universities.
They have developed a scheme to fund teachers to be trained so that they can teach students mental health first aid (MHFA). Students will then be able to identify, understand and help a person who may be developing a mental health issue and signpost them so that they can quickly get the support they need and therefore prevent problems escalating.
