Our Pulastic Floor system designed to minimise the possibility of injuries to knee joints and the lower spine, so there's really no better place in Canterbury to play Badminton!

No-Strings Badminton Morning
This session is designed for all standards of players. Our coach, Lesley, arranges drills and matches and will offer coaching tips to each individual player on technique and tactics. Runs term time only.
Wednesday: 10.00 - 12.00

No-Strings 50+ Badminton Session
These Sessions are for those 50+ and all abilities are welcome. Our coach, Lesley, will organise games and will be there to provide coaching tips to help improve your game. Runs term time only.
Monday: 11.15am - 12.15pm

No-Strings Badminton For All Evening
These sessions are for everyone (minimum age 5 and over) and all levels are welcome. It is an evening of playing badminton games with friends and family in a relaxed and fun environment. Our coach, Lesley, will be there to organise games and provide coaching tips to help improve your game. One court will be allocated for the younger players to help them enjoy the game through fun activities.
Monday: 6.15 - 7.30pm

Badmintone Lunchtime Course
This is a brand new course and Kings are the first ones to launch this amazing class in the area. Badmintone, run by our coach Lesley, is a whole body badminton workout aimed at improving your strength, stamina and muscle tone to name a few. The class is based on 30 minutes of circuit training and 30 minutes of fun badminton games. The class is for those 16 years and over. All levels welcome.
Monday: 12.15 - 13.15pm

Advanced Badminton Courses
These two hour structured sessions are for first team league players and above. The sessions will include coaching to help improve technique, tactics and fitness via routines, conditioned games and match play.

Badminton Essentials
Come along and learn the essentials of Badminton in this 8 week course! Aimed at those new to the game, our coach Lesley will take you through a wide selection of shots and match play skills.

Club Night

Our coach, Lesley, organises Wednesday evening and provides tips and advice to improve playing standards. These sessions are focused towards club level players who enjoy playing competitive games. For those in the club that want additional competition we enter teams in the local North Foreland league; we have two men's teams, and three teams fielding both men and women. Our home matches are currently played on Sundays.

Wednesday:  19:30 - 21:30   (19:00-21:30 from 13th June- 22nd August) 


Canterbury Para-Badminton Evening

Para-Badminton is a rapidly growing sport suitable for a wide range of physical disabilities. Players can be standing or use wheelchairs. Typical disabilities for standing players would include: single limb amputees, cerebral palsy, any upper limb disability and short stature/ dwarfism. Wheelchair players often have disabilities such as: spinal cord injuries, neurological conditions of lower limbs and lower limb amputees. These groups are just examples. Sessions are run by our coach Lesley who provides coaching and organises games to improve your badminton. If you have a physical disability and would like to play please contact

Individual Badminton Lessons
This is a one hour session available to adults and children of all ages and abilities. To book your lesson please go to Reception and leave your details. Our coach (Lesley Uphill) will then contact you to arrange a mutually convenient time for your lesson.

Badminton Fitness
Badminton requires players to have good strength, stamina, agility, speed and flexibility to name a few. If you book a session with our badminton coach, Lesley, who is also an experienced personal trainer, she will design an individualised training programme to meet your needs and help improve your fitness for the game. Sessions will take place either in the sports hall and/ or in the gym.




The Centre has four squash courts including two with glass backs, all with excellent state of the art lighting. There is a flourishing squash league, knockout competitions, club night and individual lessons can be booked as well as regular courses and sessions for both squash and racketball.



Racket-Fit is a fun activity class for everyone based on squash and racketball fitness, movements and skills. It's a fun and dynamic way to get fit, improve muscle tone and on average you can burn between 600-800 calories in an hour. These sessions are open to both males and females, aged 16 and over. No squash playing experience is necessary.

A typical class involves a warm up, fun drills and activities to develop squash and racketball skills / movements, an exercise circuit, game based practices, a cool down and stretching to maintain/improve flexibility. Everybody is encouraged to work at their own level.
Time: Monday 10.00 - 11.00

Junior Squash Coaching

Our Junior sessions cater for everyone from 7-18 years. The Beginners session offers an ideal introduction to the sport and is also suitable for those that can maintain a rally. The Intermediate session is for those that have a wider range of shots and a better understanding of tactics / game play. The Advanced session will look further at the development of technique, moving correctly, fitness and tactics.

Tuesday 16.30 - 18.00 Intermediate (improvers, 9+ years)
Thursday 18.00 - 19.30 Advanced (competent players, 9+ years)
Saturday 09.00 - 10.30 Beginners & Improvers (7+ years)

We have three Junior Squash Teams playing in the Kent Junior Leagues.  Anyone wanting to play in the Junior Teams should come to one of our coaching sessions and talk to Tom.

Individual Squash / Racketball Lessons

Individual lessons can be arranged at the centre and have proved to be very popular. They are suitable for all standards of play, for both children and adults. Please contact Reception for more details and to book your lesson with Tom May.

Squash Fitness

Squash requires multiple fitness elements; speed, strength, power, endurance and flexibility. Book a session with Tom, who will use his experience as a personal trainer, coupled with his knowledge of squash and racketball fitness requirements, to develop a specific training program. This will be tailored to individual needs and will improve your fitness for the game. Sessions will take place on court and in the gym.

Squash Club Night

Our Monday Squash Club Nights are run by our resident Squash Coach, Tom, as social occasions. These provide players with the opportunity to play against people of different abilities. Tom will also be available to give advice on how to improve your game. This session is open to both male and female players. Juniors are welcome at the coach's discretion.
Time: Monday 18:00-21:00

Squash Improvers Club Night

The Improver Club Nights include 45 minutes of coaching and 45 minutes of game play. The sessions are designed for beginners/improvers, or for those coming back to the game. These sessions will help to bridge the gap between a less experienced player and our existing Club Night on a Monday. Males and females are welcome, juniors at the coach’s discretion. There's no need to book, just turn up!

Squash Leagues

If you would like to play against different players, or if you want to find a partner of the same ability, why not join our squash leagues? Simply join at the bottom and work your way up or enter a league of your choice. Each league consists of four players and you have a calendar month in which to play your games. Players will move up or down depending on the points they gain that month.

Ladies Squash Evening

These squash sessions are for ladies only. Our resident coach, Tom, will be organising each session to include coaching and matches, and will help to improve your game. You will have the opportunity to play against people of different abilities and all standards of player are welcome!
Time: Wednesday 18.00-19.30

Squash Team Training

These squash courses are open to players of team and prospective team standard. The sessions will include coaching and routines to help improve technique, tactics, plus conditioned games and fitness training. They will help players become more competent and consistent match players. Sessions are arranged by our coach Tom.

Adult Beginner & Intermediate Squash Courses

The beginner courses are designed for adults who are new to the game of squash and the intermediate courses are designed for adults who are competent players, looking to improve. These courses will provide the opportunity for individuals to learn and improve skills, keep fit and have fun. Courses are open to anyone aged 16 and over. Squash Teams

The King’s School Recreation Centre Men’s Teams are currently playing in the Kent South East Leagues. Any player who wishes to play in any of our teams is welcome to do so. Teams will be selected from where players stand within the squash ladder/leagues. The top players will be given the opportunity to play in the teams. Come down to Club Night and talk to Tom and the team captains if you are interested in playing for a team.

Squash Competitions
The successful King's Squash Open Graded Tournament, sponsored in 2017 by  Randall and Quilter Investment Holdings Ltd., CA Drillers, JCA Architecture, BTL Design, Coombs, Rigley Print, Handelsbanken, Finn's, EuroCanterbury, DIVA Metalworks, Autoworld, Creative Clicks, CM Stringers and Harrow has run for the last thirteen years, with this year’s event attracting 86 players from around the country.

The standard of player ranges from recreational to world ranked and everyone gets to play at least twice over the weekend, as a Plate competition runs alongside the main draw of each grade (A, B, C & D).

Cash prizes are there to be won! The tournament runs annually in March/April, so watch out for details of the Canterbury Squash Open 2019. There will also be the annual King’s Closed Knockout tournaments to look forward to. The Junior and Senior (Mens & Ladies) squash and racketball tournaments will take place in October 2018.


The game of Racketball is an ideal sport for all ages and played on a standard squash court.  Rules are similar to those of squash with slight variations; the rackets are slightly larger and the ball is bigger and bouncier, making it easier to get a rally going. Look on the Squash & Racketball noticeboard for Racketball Rules. We have rackets available for hire and balls to purchase from Reception.  Simply book a squash court and have a go.

Adult Beginner Racketball Courses

Racketball is a perfect introduction for people looking to play a fun and competitive sport, as well as being a great game for experienced squash players. A forty minute Racketball match is a fantastic cardio-vascular workout, for players of all abilities!

These two hour courses are an excellent introduction to the sport. Why not give it a go? Our qualified instructor, Tom, will be running the courses for anyone aged 16 and over. If you are interested in attending any of the courses please book your place at Reception.

Adult Racketball Evening

These sessions are open to both male and female players, aged 16 and over. Our resident coach, Tom, will be organising each session to include coaching and matches, and will help to improve your game. Here at King's there is always an opportunity to get out on the court! With 3 Hard Court tennis courts available for hire all year round, as well as a further 9 astro-turf courts in summer tennis is well catered for. If you don't want to brave the cold then why not try your hand at short tennis in the sports hall?

Mini Tennis

Children between three and ten years old can now get stuck into the world of tennis with an exciting programme from the LTA. With smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls, Mini Tennis offers the perfect introduction to the sport, with all the fun and energy of the real thing. here are four stages of Mini Tennis; Tots, Red, Orange and Green, each with their own court size and type of ball. This tailored approach enables players to develop vital skills and techniques at an early age.

Tots Tennis (3-4 years)

Enabling children to learn the basics and how to enjoy the game through a series of fun activities, based on the fundamental areas of balance, co-ordination, agility, movement and racket and ball skills.

Red Tennis (5-8 years)

Mini Red players learn to serve, rally and score with a slow ball, as well as learning the movement and co-ordination skills needed for tennis. Players are encouraged to play fun competitions in teams and as individuals, with short matches using tie-breaks scoring.

Orange Tennis (8-9 years)

Mini orange players develop a rounded game, learning a range of techniques and tactics. There are team and Individual competitions with matches using tie-break scoring – using the best of three

Green Tennis (9-10 years)

Mini green players can now put their technique and skills into practice on a full court with a faster ball. There are individual and team competitions, with scoring extended to short sets.

Mini Tennis Rally Awards scheme

Designed to help mini players learn in stages and take part in exciting exercises with regular rewards which encourage them to develop their tennis skills at a pace that suits them.

Junior Tennis Coaching

Our junior tennis programme caters for players aged 11 and over, coaching and competition are available for these players to enable them to play the game and develop their skills.

Yellow Tennis (11 & Over)

Played on a full sized court, with full sized rackets and full compression yellow balls.In these sessions players will focus on developing key techniques and tactics whilst becoming a well-rounded player.


Our competitions take place both during and outside of the tennis programme. Players will be given the opportunity to compete in match plays, team competitions and in-house ladders/box leagues. The matches completed will be recorded and will go towards players LTA ratings.

With all our classes and course there are maximum numbers, so please book to avoid missing out on this great opportunity. In the event of wet weather, please contact Reception to ensure the session is taking place. All Mini and Junior session ages are guidelines that are in line with the LTA competition structure. Players may be placed outside of the guidelines dependent on their tennis ability.

Adult Tennis Coaching

Our Adult sessions are for players of all ages and abilities. Our sessions consist of a balance of coaching and match play. Our resident coach is on hand to provide technical advice and help you develop your overall game.

Our sports hall is perfectly designed for 5-a-side football with a state of the art Pulastic Floor system designed to minimise the possibility of injuries to knee joints and the lower spine. Sessions can be arranged as one off bookings or if you are looking to have regular bookings we may be able to ‘block book’ a time slot out for you.

Cricket Nets

In addition to the large sports hall area we have 2 cricket net lanes available for bookings; these full length nets also have sufficient run off for bowlers run ups.


Table Tennis

We have table tennis available for hire here at the Recreation Centre. Your table will be set up on a squash court, with bats and balls available from reception.


Started at King’s in 1929, the school’s fencing club is one of the oldest in continuous existence in the UK and has produced a number of international standard fencers.

The King’s School Recreation Centre, as a British Fencing Registered Club, is delighted to offer both group and individual tuition throughout term time with our fantastic coaches.
