Childrens Lessons

What ever your child’s age and ability we have classes to suit everyone’s swimming needs. Your child can start swimming from as early as 6 months in our adult and child classes, also known as Duckling awards.  The classes have been primarily designed to introduce very young children and an accompanying adult to the pleasures of being in the water.  Great emphasis is placed on enjoyment and developing water confidence, taking the baby from initial introduction to the water, to achieving independence without the parent.  The awards have been specifically developed to support the new foundation for the National Teaching Plan.  The lessons run in courses of 10-12 week blocks, each lesson is half an hour long and held Monday-Thursday mornings.

The National Teaching Plan has been developed as a template for learn to swim schemes.  It has been designed to assist our fully qualified teachers whose own experience and training will enhance the implementation of the plan.  It consists of 12 levels, level 1 being a non-swimmer and level 12 being a competent swimmer.  All our lessons follow the NTP which proves highly successful.  NTP lessons run in courses of 10-12 week blocks, and are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings and Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

The main emphasis is on the development of underpinning skills and effective techniques, to include starts, turns, use of pace clock, simple land based loosening exercises, racing procedures and relevant drills appropriate to the four competitive strokes.
